This EV cost per mile calculator is programmed to calculate precisely how much you can expect to pay to drive one mile with an electric vehicle.
Just enter the car details into the EV cost calculator below and you’ll get the estimated cost per mile along with the estimated cost for 100 miles.
How to calculate EV cost per mile
Firstly, you’ll need to have a few basic details to hand, these include:
- Your electricity rate: Check your utility bill or contact your electricity provider to find out the cost per kilowatt-hour (kWh) in your area. This rate may vary depending on the time of day or your specific plan.
- Battery capacity: Look up the battery size of your electric vehicle in kilowatt-hours (kWh). This is usually listed on the manufacturer’s website or in the car’s specifications.
- Vehicle range: Check the manufacturer’s website or the car’s specifications to find out how many miles your electric vehicle can travel on a single charge.
Once you have these three values, use the formula below to calculate the cost per mile for your EV:
Cost per mile formula = (Electricity rate in pence per kWh /100) x (Battery Capacity in kWh) / Mileage
For example, if your electricity rate is 32p per kWh, the battery capacity is 50kWh and the car’s range is 200 miles, then the cost per mile will be calculated as follows:
(32/100) x 50 / 200
Cost per mile = 8p
Keep in mind that your actual cost per mile may vary depending on factors such as driving habits, weather conditions, and vehicle maintenance.
